Natasha meets Marcus Daniels for Color at Giuseppe Franco Salon in Bev Hills

FALLING
FOR MARCUS
by Natasha

Now
that fall is around the corner, it’s time to swap your gloss for lipstick,
flip-flops for clogs and give those sun-damaged locks some much needed TLC. As
a brunette in search of rich, eye-popping color, I’ve spent years looking for a
colorist who could handle my mane without making me look like I was wearing a
wig. At the recommendation of a friend, I booked an appointment with
Marcus
Daniels
at the Giuseppe Franco Salon in Beverly Hills. And I’m SO
happy I did.

Enter
Marcus Daniels
, rock star of hair
color — tattooed, motorcycle-riding, loud, rock-n-roll blasting, straight and
really, really fun. But while his personal style is over-the-top, his attention
to color is anything but. He looks at my skin tone, the flecks in my eyes, and
pays close attention to what I
want
.
“I get it,” he tells me. “What you need is rich, conservative color with
integrity.” He then proceeds to work his magic.

He
uses Richesse by L’Oreal Professional – a demi with no ammonia — which yields high
shine and richness. He then performs a “zig-zag pull-thru”, a technique he
created on Faith Hill that simulates a balayage or a highlight effect with the
hair’s natural history so as not to end up looking monochromatic or flat.
Through all of this I learn he’s one of the top color gurus at L’Oreal and has
transformed the hair of countless Hollywood celebrities. Of course he has!

I
liked Marcus so much, my color appointment ended with a great big hug – and I
even booked an appointment for my best friend, an editor at In Style (caramel
brunette) and my stylish yet sophisticated Montecito mom (champagne blonde). A
week later, my husband tells me, “Your hair looks like velvet!” Not a wig in
sight.

Blond,
brunette or redhead
Marcus Daniels

is your man.

xx,
Natasha

Rising star trainer KIT RICH – Inspired fitness guru to inspire you for some major change, inside and out

July 30, 2010

I've been hearing a ton about Pilates guru and trainer to (not just!) the stars, KIT RICH.  Her classes at Pilates Plus (Bev Hills, the Valley) are sold out a month in advance.  And she's so busy training and inspiring clients throughout the rest of the day, I was lucky to have been able squeeze her for an hour in-home private. I wanted a Kit Rich approved post-baby workout /prescription.

I got that and then some.

Kit showed up (so adorable and fit you want to shoot yourself or at least get on her program or maybe just BE her) with a Bosu and some bands and after a little chat about the state of my fat, pain riddled body, we got to work.  After an hour of moving through all the major muscle groups, especially targeting the post-baby weak spots (hips and abs) Kit devised a totally do-able daily routine of about  moves to get me moving and grooving and on my way to feeling better and hopefully soon, looking better too.

Before I get to showing you what they are, I just need to talk about how cool Kit is for a sec.

First of all, she comes from a place of simplicity works. Especially when it comes to restoring a fitness regime after say, having a baby… don't look at the long haul (ugh, mine seems monumental), just commit to a few minutes daily at first and build from there.  Just that little bit will make you feel better so you will feel restored mentally and WANT to do more.  I dig that.  And it's true.  She's also into esteem building and can wax prolific about the connection between fitness, health and the way we feel about ourselves.

Of course this meant that within minutes she could tell I was seriously hard on myself, which only leads to self-sabotage. Uh, she's right.  How many pints of Ben and Jerry's (ok, low fat) Fro Yo did I polish off yesterday when I felt I didn't work out hard enough? Three.

Kit definitely made me think about things on top of working my bod just right – not to failure but intensely enough to push me in the direction I need to be going.

Check out her inspirational website, REAL BODY CAFE for tips on beauty, fitness, health, nutrition and more.  It's inspiring to watch these little videos of the adorable Kit spewing the 411 on what's good for you. She's cool and not corny and very REAL. If fact, I'm going to have to hire her to come help me get and stay on track. That is if she can fit me in her ridic busy sched. (Three classes a day?! Five clients a day? What 24 hour cylcle are you living in?)

It's no wonder Kit is the fave of so many celebs and is swiftly on her way to being a major player in the world of fitness and beyond.

WANT! – Natasha’s berry berry Burberry

July 29, 2010

The music, the models, the
glowing skin, the shearling-lined aviator… I simply cannot get enough of
BURBERRY!

In
preparation for their fall/winter 2010 collections, Burberry is launching one
of my favorite advertising campaigns EVER. Shot by Mario Testino, the
interactive online campaign brilliantly combines the timeless, traditional
Burberry label
with cutting-edge technology, fresh-face models (Emma Watson,
Lily Donaldson, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Nina
Porter) and a new line of makeup that boasts an effortless, natural rainbow of
lipsticks, liners, powders and shadows. RUN – don’t walk – to your nearest
Nordstrom for a tube of the ‘Lip Glow’ natural lip gloss — No. 9 Nude is my
personal favorite. You won’t be disappointed. And check out the links below–
they’re totally inspiring. You may just find yourself booking a trip across the
pond.

Audrina Patridge visits The Garnier Malibu Beach House.

July 27, 2010

The Garnier Malibu Beach House played host to a wonderful time at the beach yesterday and where was I?  Covered in spit up and bouncing a crying baby on an exercise ball.  I did get the full scoop on what I missed though.  I'm espesh bummed cuz Audrina from The Hills was there and being a ginormous fan of the show (I'm clearly High Brow-Brilliant) I'm just oh-so bumerino that I didn't get a real life peek at her…well…boobs.

As is her celeb due Audrina was treated to some skincare pampering and hairstyling by Garnier experts – Hairstylist Marc Mena and Aesthetician Stacy Cox.  Stacy Cox helped prep her skin for the beach with NEW Garnier Nutritioniste Moisture Rescue Lightweight UV Lotion and Garnier Nutritioniste Skin Renew Anti-Dark-Circle Roller.  Marc Mena prepped Audrina’s hair using Garnier Fructis Blow Dry Perfector 2-Step Smoothing Kit, then added beautiful beach waves and fixed them with Garnier Fructis Anti-Humidity Hairspray. Obviously she looked Hills and Malibu fab.

The day was capped off with a cocktail party, where beauty bloggers & style writers (MINUS ME !)  enjoyed delicious bites and desserts catered by Chef Manouschka from Private Chefs of Beverly Hills.  Apparently Audrina was super sweet and graciously took photos with guests, while Marc and Stacy helped introduce the new Color Shield Haircare collection, Moisture Rescue skincare collection and new Garnier Men’s Survivor collection.

Here are some pix of the perky Audrina, looking ravishing with her gorgeous Garnier hair. Yes, they make me feel fat, old and ugly.

So looking forward to some Garnier products for a major over-tired-new-mommy pick me up.
