Gotta dude to groom? JACK BLACK MEN’S SKIN CARE AND GROOMING PRODUCTS will clean ’em up real good.

STEAL OF THE SEASON by Natasha

No man (or woman) can resist the clean, peppermint fragrance of Jack Black’s Clean Formula Face Bar & Shave Soap – and now it comes in a round shape with an improved formula that breaks down pore-clogging residue while simultaneously nourishing the skin.  Smart and fuss-free – just what every man is looking for.

After landing in our shower last week, the Clean Formula bar literally slipped through my husband’s fingers and became one of my favorite “steals” of the season. The 2-in-1, French-milled, plant-based formula is gentle enough for my face, but thick and luxurious enough that I can lather it on my legs for a quick shave between waxings. Perfect for back-to-school week when I barely have time to squeeze in a shower, let alone fuss with my elaborate system of make-up removers, cleansers, exfoliaters, toners, moisturizers, masks… You get the picture. It’s fast and easy. Oh yeah, and Jack Black is all cruelty-free, vegan and dermatologist tested. Sorry, hubby. You have officially been 86’ed from this bar.

Price: $14.00

Available at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Blomingdales, Sephors, Saks Fifth Avenue and www.getjackblack.com

Bat your eyes at Alison Engel – GROOMED L.A.’s newest Contributing Beauty Editor!

September 1, 2010

Here's a bit about Alison…

I’ve had an innate passion for two things from childhood – movies and product. (Well, if I’m being honest I’d have to add food to that list.)  I now make my living as a film and television producer, and lately, when I close my eyes and dream at night it’s not images of sugarplums that dance through my head, but of products I might invent and sell on QVC.

As a child, while the other kids played in the sandbox at the playground, I sat on a bench with my Mom’s best friend Marie. On a typical day Marie was in an Yves Saint Laurent pantsuit and I wore a Florence Eiseman matching top and knit pants.  I’d try on Marie’s jewelry and investigate the contents of her fabulous Gucci bag while she discussed with me the fundamental rules of chic. So began my style and grooming education. My reverence for all things style continued and I became an unofficial consigliore as friends sought advice on products and procedures and doctors and technicians. Long before the Internet and blogs, my clipping files filled with categorized information on products, services, design, art, restaurants, and all earthly delights were legendary reference tools for friends and family.

Of course, as I’ve gotten older, my interest in product has increasingly focused on anti-aging remedies.  How fortunate that I live in Los Angeles where the quest for eternal youth is not only socially sanctioned, it is practically a religion. The bottom line – I’m infinitely curious and a crack investigator.  Whether it’s finding the right lipstick or the meaning of life, I relish the mission.  I’m excited to share what I learn with the readers of Groomed LA.

FARM BOX LA – fresh, local farmer’s market goodies delivered to your door weekly. Can you say FRESH without having to do any of the work? Yes!

August 31, 2010

If I didn't have a 4.5 year old and 3 month old with very different schedules, and wasn't suffering from new baby sleep deprivation, I'd pop out of bed on Sunday and head out to the farmer's market no problemo – We'd be eating fresh, local produce all week, beating even the great prices at Trader Joe's and supporting local agriculture.  I'd feel great that I was feeding my family the best nature has to offer.  Unfortunately by the time I've rallied everyone up, survived a toddler meltdown or two, changed a diaper on Beverly Blvd. (as in ON the street itself), the Larchmont market is either closed or there's nothing left on the tables.

But now there's Farm Box LA.

And every week Farm Box delivers boxes of organic, locally grown fruit, vegetables and herbs to subscribers throughout Los Angeles . Yup, right to your doorstep AND for a great price.

There are a few different options:

THE Farm Box LA: One or two people for $50/week ( I tried this one and it was perfect for my family. Two adults and our daughter…The baby's not eating solids yet!)

SUPER Farm Box LA: Three to four people for $75/week

  • GRANDE Farm Box LA: Five to six people for $100/week

Didn't finish your box?  Here are some options as not to waste:

Return to Farm Box for distribution to a local food bank

Farm Box will compost inedible food

AND they'll also pickle or jam your produce for bottled yummy treats later.

Brilliantly created by sweet as a peach Reisha Fryzer  she "created the company to share my love of eating fresh, healthy, seasonal, organic, pesticide-free produce with my fellow Los Angelenos who would love to eat that way too."

Farm Box only selects in-season produce, so you can't choose what produce you receive, but you can request not to receive a specific item they don't like.

Farm Box does guarantee 100% customer satisfaction.

My amazing box came with the most divine lonnggg string beans that I never even knew existed and the bounty of fresh herbs I received is now the most aromatic table center piece ever!

EMMY HAIR AND SKIN with Dr. Jessica Wu and Makeup&Go

August 30, 2010

How fun were those Emmys?!

Dr. Jessica Wu: Dermatologist to Emmy nominees, shares her Emmy skin care tips that will help you can get ready for those big nights right at home.

Here are her tips celebrities use to get that ‘glow’ right in the comfort of their own homes.

  • Exfoliate once or twice a week with a gentle scrub (I like Philosophy Hope in a Jar for face and Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish for Body);
  • Hydrate at night with a moisturizer that contains hyaluronic acid (like Nude Skincare Moisture Balance)
  • Brush a shimmer powder over the apples of cheeks (I like Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick)
  • Use a body bronzer on shoulders, arms, and legs (my favorite is Scott Barnes Body Bling).

And for makeup like the stars… Emmy weekend hotspot had local customers getting glammed up for  star studded parties, and red carpets all weekend long.

A beauty industry first,
Makeup&GO! transforms the concept of professional makeup application from something women previously reserved for special occasions to allow anyone the feeling of being red carpet ready.

Makeup&GO! offers a convenient, affordable and engaging space to get GOrgeous anytime. Best of all, there's no obligation to buy makeup, simply fun and GOrgeous makeup application services.

Services start at just $18!!!
