Mirror Mirror on the wall, please make me fabulous this Fall! – Tara checks out MAC’s Venemous Villiainas Collection

October 25, 2010

While the kids are dressing up in their Tinkerbelle costumes, I’ve decided to be deviously fabulous this Halloween. Just in time for Fall, MAC Cosmetics has just launched their Venomous Villains collection. 4 separate mini makeup collections inspired by Disney’s favorite Villains.

The collection includes pieces inspired by; Snow White’s Evil Queen, 101 Dalmatian’s Cruella De Vil, Sleeping Beauty’s Maleficent and Dr. Facilier from the Princess and the Frog. The color palettes are rich and striking. There is nothing like the dramatic look of dark eyes, high cheek bones and a deep red lip, to glam up a night on the town.

I am already a fan of a deep red nail polish called Bad Fairy Red and a navy and green eye shadow named She Who Dares. Plus who can pass up owning a compact mirror perfectly coined, I’m So Vain.

Being bad never felt so good!

Checking out for the week!

October 24, 2010

Hey lovelies!

I'm in NYC for the week working on a film (still stoking the acting career when I can!) and I'll be out of the beauty loop until I return in one week.

Have a great week and stay groomed!

XO Emily

Stringy brows? Get threaded at THREAD – quick, cheap, GOOD!

I'm always jazzed when I discover a little gem in my hood. Found this one on a neighborhood stroll this week. THREAD. A full on threading only, as in no wax, salon.  This place is so simple, right down to the gorgeous, immaculate, minimal modern design (love the graphics!), affordable ($15 for brows, me likes) that it just makes perfect sense. I so want peeps to know about it because the woman, Kalpana, who worked on me was phenom.

Once again, $15!!! for gorgeous brows. Oh and if you don't know what threading is, it's a fantastic, ancient (though not, er, pain-free) alternative to waxing.  The 'threader' uses a spool of good ol' fash thread and does this cool little maneuver over the hairs which pulls it out from the root.  I'm super sensitive to facial waxing and this has been my go-to hair removal technique for years.

After that, a little brow trim, a dab of lovely Yonka toner swabbed across, an you're good to go, albeit red, blotchy and horrible skin-reaction free.  At least for me.  The upper lip hurts like a mo-fo but once again, nothing compared to what wax can do or leave you with if you are wax-sensitive.  It's said that threading lasts longer as well.  I'm totally sold on this place and it will now be my go-to hair-free face salon.  Ooh, and I can walk there! Lucckyyy!
