Blink Bar is a new leading lash extension spot – with locations in WeHo and Santa Monica.
I had an excellent set applied by Michelle in WeHo (at Marc Edwards skincare in the French Marketplace) and she did a careful and studied job, paying attention to my growth cycle and respecting the state of my lashes. Love my lashes. Light, natural and so necessary.

Orangetheory Fitness™ is the first of its kind: an interval training, group fitness class that uses a science-based approach to create an effective and unique workout, personalized for each participant. Each 60 minute class is led by a certified, Orangetheory Fitness™ trained instructor and is designed to build muscle, tone your body, measure calorie burn, and increase metabolism for up to 36 hours post workout!
With over 85 locations across the United States, Canada, and the UK, and over 100 more scheduled to open in the next 18 months, the next generation of fitness is finally coming to Los Angeles.
Orangetheory Fitness™ is opening their first Los Angeles location in Brentwood (on San Vicente) at the beginning of May, with special, no obligation, presale pricing for members who join before May 1, 2014.
They are so confident in what their brand and workout has to offer that all members who join before this date will get two free weeks of classes once their doors open, to make sure members love it before they buy it. The Company has successfully removed all reasons why people would not join a gym: no contracts, no initiation fee, try two weeks free before paying anything, and if you join one, you can use every location nationwide.
There are no more excuses, so what are you waiting for?
Most importantly – Orangetheory Fitness™ is whole-heartedly invested in the local community. Since solidifying their Brentwood location, Management has offered free Saturday morning boot camps in the area, brought in local fitness vendors to host special events (e.g. Quest Bar provides free samples every Friday) and partnered with local nutritionists to offer free classes and fitness instruction to their clients until their beautiful space opens in May. Orangetheory Fitness™ not only succeeds at getting its members into the best shape of their lives, but also creates a community of support for all ages and fitness levels.
WHAT MAKES THEM DIFFERENT?
Orangetheory Fitness™ takes interval training and turns it on its head, incorporating the use of heart rate monitors, TRX, medicine balls, WaterRower™ machines, and treadmills, enabling each person to get an individualized workout in a group class setting.
Not only will members burn up to 500-1000 calories per class, but will also burn calories for up to 36 hours post workout, and can lose up to 8 pounds per week, depending on their utilization of the studio and nutrition. This calorie information, in addition to a participant’s heart rate, is tracked on flat screens around the workout room through use of a heart rate watch and strap. This maximum calorie burn is a result of their science-based, Orange Zone – getting participants to 84% of their max heart rate for a total of 12-20 minutes in aggregate within an hour class.
We would love your audience to get a first hand look at the Orangetheory Fitness™ experience. Please let us know if you are interested in doing a segment or story, and we would love to schedule you to try a class!
IT’S ALL ABOUT THE SCIENCE
Featured in the New York Times, and Well & Good NYC, Orangetheory Fitness™ is hailed as the ultimate experience for gym goers who are frustrated with their results, are uninspired by stale equipment, and are hitting plateaus in their fitness goals.
The workout class is 60 minutes long, and features three components: running on a treadmill, indoor rowing, and strength training. It is based on a physiological theory called “Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption,” (EPOC). By providing each person with a POLAR heart rate monitor, the highly trained team at Orangetheory Fitness™ monitors your heart rate to ensure members are in their ideal fat burning zone. They call their class Orange 60.
By producing EPOC in a 60 minute class, this essentially ensures that members will experience a workout “after-burn” effect, meaning that they will continue burning calories up to 36 hours after the workout is over.
Beyond the science, the results are clear. Orangetheory Fitness™ members boast increased muscle endurance, power, stamina and in cases where desired, weight loss. They have more energy within 1 month of training, and are seeing significant results in muscle toning and weight loss as early as 2-3 months into their program.
All fitness levels are welcome, as well as any person over the age of 16. Orangetheory Fitness™ trainers are highly trained, motivated, passionate and friendly. Their mission is to help members achieve their goals safely and efficiently while having fun in the process. Orangetheory facilities feature upbeat music, a modern and clean aesthetic, well-maintained state of the art equipment, and private showers.

There’s a chill in the air. My legs are dry, hairy and pale. I wanna wear a skirt, a dress, dare I say….shorts?
Enter: Hane’s Silk Reflections Pure Bliss Tights $13
Thank you for making getting outta my winter duds that much easier.
SO comfy, I don’t have the icky tights feel – of course I am wearing them in black (obviously) and so cute with cut-off denim and cowboy or Frye boots. My legs feel totally invigorated an way sexier, more toned and shapely then they REALLY are. I think I’ll sleep in them.
A totally great way to ease into getting my mind around showing my legs, wearing skirts and doing this whole summer fashion thing. In other words, it’ll make transitioning out of my sweat pants MUCH easier.

Taste Savant makes everything easier for us providing menus, reservations through Open Table, delivery by GrubHub Seamless. You name it. Keep your eyes peeled for more food-centric cities from Taste Savant this year and an iOS app on the way.
Café Gratitude is the royal throne of the LA vegan food scene. Part of the Eater 38, it’s a local favorite for organic raw & vegan cuisine. While not a new addition to any vegan list in LA, Café Gratitude deserves to be on the list over and over again. Check out both their Larchmont and Venice locations.
Vegan highlights: The LA Times loves their Polenta, Potatoes, Pizza, Chocolate Mint Cheesecake, and Key Lime Pie
2. Crossroads
Vegan food can be fancy too! Tal Ronnen is chef to the stars and as of last year, all of us can now enjoy his delicious plant-based food. Crossroads has solid reviews from many of the critics including industry vet and carnivore, Jason Berkowitz. Be sure to check out their very popular pre-fixe Sunday Supper.
Vegan highlights: LA Weekly likes the Tortelloni. Time Out and LA Mag touts the “Meaty” Lasagna and Crab Cakes.
With 2 locations in Echo Park and Culver City, Sage Vegan Bistro is one delicious destination for vegans without sacrificing flavor. One of the best parts of Sage Vegan is they have live music every Thursday and Sunday. Don’t miss it! The folks at Sage describe themselves as all things to all people, satisfying all walks of life while being decadently healthy. Sage Vegan’s fans include Flywheel’s Jesse Brune.
LA doesn’t lack in salad hot spots, but Greenleaf is taking the formula to another level by revolutionizing salads with their clean principles. And they don’t stop there. Come into Greenleaf for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. And even stick around for their daily happy hour with half-off small plates. Barry’s Bootcamp instructors, Joey Gonzalez and Astrid McGuire, can’t stop raving about Greenleaf.
Vegan highlights: Grilled Vegetable Salad and tons of vegan friendly sides.
5. M Cafe
Both Flywheel’s Jesse Brune & Barry’s Joey Gonzalez recommend M Café. There are tons of vegan options at this contemporary macrobiotic staple. M Café serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with a great outdoor space at all locations. With a fresh deli bar as well, M Café also caters to healthy eats on the go!

Flywheel’s Jesse Brune loves Suncafe which isn’t just vegan but it’s also raw and all organic. Many dishes are gluten free or can be made gluten free. This restaurant accommodates everyone. For anyone coming down from an exhausting hike at Runyan Canyon or Griffith Park, this is a great spot to relax and recharge.
